Child harassment - the Painful Reality

Child harassment has been a predominant factor within today’s as much as yesterday’s ferocious community both at urban and rural level. The child abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, and exploitation. Quite miserably the abuse takes place at homes, schools, orphanages, residential care facilities, and even on the streets and inside prisons.
It goes without saying that harassment have adverse impact on the overall development on the child’s development as a result critically influences the child’s potential and performance impairing their mental, physical and social being.

Child abuse in India has always remained a hidden phenomenon especially when it happens in the home or by family members, though this phenomenon is prevalent all over the world. However, thanks to the social media that played significantly into bringing these kinds of incidents into prominence and making it viral to the world and making people aware.

Going back to the Painful Past

In the recent past we have seen several outrageous incidents based on child harassment in our country. One of the most disgraceful one was the GD Birla Rape Case at Kolkata in which two teachers were arrested for assaulting a four-year-old student. This incident had shaken not only people in Bengal but also the Nation for that matter. Similarly, a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a cab driver of a private school in southwest Delhi's Palam village. Another shocking reality got exposed when Minor girls rescued from Telangana brothels who were in the age of 5 and were injected with sex hormones. In fact, a case had gone to the extent of a boy being stripped and tied to a tree for bunking classes. A California couple was arrested for imprisoned for 94 years for child abuse in which they had chained 13 kids to bed and starved them for years. In Hyderabad, one couple was held for torturing a four-year-old girl with a frying pan. The list of cases can go endless; however, the shocking reality still remains unprotected, at least not in every place.

Strategies to Abolish Child Abuse

Now, despite the fact that our HRD ministry apart from multiple social organisations have already raised their anger and chalked out strategies for schools to deal with child abuses case, these incidents are predominant all over the country still now. The newspaper columns, news bulletin, or even the social media keeps us updated on such outrageous incidents taking us into bitter experiences. But that’s not enough, I guess its high time that people take a strong stand against it and much before it actually takes place into reality. So that the increasing number of cases can be defended with firm actions. Especially at places where the child stays alone for a longer time are the ones to be taken up into major consideration, though things also get worst at multiple homes. Its all about the way we grow up and how we deal with our life and situations. I guess even after strict stands by the law and several social organisations there are numerous child abuse cases still being heard today across the world, which makes it more alarming factor for the humans’ race as to find out what’s the best solution?

Perhaps the best solution can be a stringent punishment for sure, for people who indulge into such disgraceful acts but also inclusive of a counselling session, so that at least the alleged get an exposure towards realizing their mistake. Other way around we would be able to understand as to what makes them undertake such mean acts. They must feel the same pain even in their dreams, who knows, may be after that they would want to contribute something better to the world to make it a better place, at least before they leave it forever.
Physical punishment can undoubtedly be a revenge on them but internal punishment can sometimes become reasons for the big change, though that’s a miraculous phenomenon.
